Siem Reap in a Nutshell
After a 6-hour road trip from Bangkok to Siem Reap and arriving in the evening, I’d never thought that Siem Reap was more developed and cleaner than the villages we passed along the journey from Poipet.A touristy city, small and enough to get around on foot or bicycle, clean, tuk-tuks, markets, and locals speaking good English is my first impression of Angkor Wat city. Then, the journey begins.

Overland Route Bangkok to Siem Reap
Overland from Bangkok to Siem Reap is part of my Indochina Road trip in 2013 where I started my journey from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh without stopping over at the airport. Passing through 2,708 km of Southeast Asia by land and getting 5 different country stamps on my passport, I do love road trips.
The road from Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia is super flat, paved, and in good condition. It takes around a 6-hour road trip and there’s one stop at a food center in remote Thailand, 1.5 hours from the border. We can get some coffee, food, or snacks, or just socialize with the minivan-mate.
